Later, at the prison, defendant Nina Emmons tells Kuzak what took place the night of the shooting. Three police officers burst into Nina's apartment looking for her ex-boyfriend. She shot at them to protect her children.

McKenzie declines believing the other partners would also say no. Later, McKenzie asks Deputy D.A. Stanley Kunin to dismiss the charges against Judge Hood.

At the staff meeting, Kelsey mentions Brackman's lawsuit filed by his neighbor, Keris, concerning Brackman's dog, Sparky. Later, Van Owen and Kuzak argue over Kuzak's handling of a date rape case. Van Owen claims date rape is too hard to prove in criminal court, let alone civil court.
