Thousands of applicants are narrowed down to 30 finalists, who travel to Hollywood for their chance to impress the judges. Who will earn their chance to become the new Design Star and win their own show on HGTV?

Eleven new design contestants aspire to be the next stars. For the first challenge of the season, they have 28 work hours and a budget of $15,000 to design the Vegas penthouse that will be their home for the competition.

Two designers face the chopping block as the teams have 28 hours of work time to make over a kitchen and dining room for two backyard neighbors.

Creativity is tested as the designers have a budget of $399 and must shop from a 99-cent store to design an entire room.

The remaining six contestants must design a $10,000, Vegas-style wedding reception with 75 guests for one lucky couple in just one day.

The final four are challenged to re-design the home of special celebrity guest Wayne Newton with 24-hours of work time and a budget of $10,000. Then each contestant must show off their hosting skills when showing off their room.

The final three designers travel cross-country to create $10,000 room makeover for three deserving families. Two contestants will make it to the final where America votes for the winner.

The final two get a surprise visit from their loved ones before heading off to Hawaii for the last challenge. There they must design two of the best suites at a hotel undergoing renovations.

The cast reunites to relive the highs and lows before the next HGTV Design Star is revealed to a live audience.
