Lorton prisons were built in 1910 by President Theodore Roosevelt in a small town called Lorton in Fairfax county Virginia. It was built to exclusively hold D.C. prisoners. It was 8 prisons built over the next 50 years. The prisons became notorious for its high level violence and escapes. The prisons were ultimately closed in 2001 after 91 years of mismanagement.
