Legends of King Arthur

Never has there been a figure as magnetically attractive as that of King Arthur. For many centuries he has been the archetypal hero, instantly recognizable not just in Britain but throughout the Western world. What is so special about this mysterious king?

It is a familiar part of the legend that Arthur set up his court to rule from Camelot. Now in that far-off country where history and legend are just branches of the same tree, they will never be separated. But is it just the link with Arthur that draws us to Camelot, or is there something more?

The name of Merlin is forever linked in our minds to King Arthur. One without the other would be unthinkable. The king could not rule without his wizard - his chief counsellor - to guide and advise him. Yet until the twelfth century, they existed in folk-tales as separate, independent characters with no connection whatsoever.
