A family drama which shows the conflict faced by a woman in choosing between her love for a man and her duty towards humanity. Sharada (Meena Kumari) faces a situation where after presuming her lover Chiranjeev (Raj Kapoor) to be dead sets out to cure a family that is grieving the loss of a son. Fate has her married to the owner of the house whom she discovers later to be her lover's father.
