U.S Coast Guard In WWII

The U.S Coast Guard played a major role in WWII as they patrolled the coasts in search of German submarines, which were present in the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to antisubmarine operations, the Coast Guard had many ships (cutters) in combat in the Pacific and Europe. Many of the coxswains of American landing craft in North Africa, Italy and the D-Day Normandy landings were Coast Guard.
