Former gifted child actor Miwa Kandagawa becomes a sharp-tongued manager. Hiding her identity, she joins the talent agency Toyo Production, under the alias "Michiko Sumidagawa." However, to be officially hired, she must ensure the big-name actor Yoshihiko Gomi successfully completes a commercial shoot. Unfortunately, her efforts are hampered by Gomi's overbearing attitude and mansplaining ways.

Ordered by Saigawa to find new talent, Miwa scouts aspiring actress Saki. Unfortunately, her small voice and inability to greet people makes her unpopular with the other talents. She even snubs an audition Miwa worked hard to get! Miwa confronts her head on with harsh words, and Saki finally opens her heart, eventually displaying her talent as an actress...

A talent is hinting at an agency transfer on social media, and Miwa is ordered to find out who it is. She suspects top star Yuji Sanada, who is clashing with his manager, but the agency and Miwa's job are doomed if he leaves. Santa, a manager of Dept. 4, is one half of the comedy duo Village Maus! Though he and his partner Mizoguchi gained some attention as high school comedians, they are now virtually inactive. Miwa is tasked with the harsh mission to disband them, but moved by the duo's passion and bond, she pushes them to make a comeback through a comedy contest.

Yuji's sudden confession flusters Miwa. Meanwhile, meddlesome actress Masae makes an "unnecessary comment" over the radio, sparking a hate campaign against herself on social media. Saigawa orders Miwa to boost publicity by fanning the flames further, but Yuji is pulled into the line of fire. With his commercial contract at stake, Miwa and Dept. 4 must make things right and save Masae.

Toyo Production is in dire straits after Miwa's identity reveal. Saigawa puts her in charge of producing a play, but the actors and sponsors drop out. Desperate, Miwa goes to renowned actress Shino Asakura, who retired after standing up for Miwa 17 years ago. That's when she finds out about Shino and Saigawa's past together.
