Subaru goes into withdrawal after losing his beloved Durandal. Shaking, he instinctively seeks out certain places to cope with the effects of his serious cockpit addiction.

Dr. Soichiro Ichinose--first-rate robotics engineer, creator of the Durandal, and father of Subaru and Isuzu--arranges a reunion with his sons on Earth. And while you may have thought the Ichinose brothers were a bit odd, their father is even odder...

Isuzu attempts to steal the Neo Durandal at gunpoint. But when he's confronted with the painful truth that he's the only one not "Universing" (=awakening to the Universe Sense), he leaves his family behind. And thus, Subaru and Isuzu part ways once more.

The appearance of a new unit piloted by Isuzu's subordinate Callaway puts the Union fleet in desperate straits. Callaway visits Isuzu to report her success in battle, but certain actions by the man she esteems so highly trigger mental instability.

The People of Metus break through the Union Fleet's defensive lines one after another. The Tiramisu receives an SOS from a civilian transport and agrees to temporarily accommodate its passengers.

Subaru is unconscious in the hospital after his gunshot wound, and Isuzu sits by his bedside. As Isuzu begins to speak to his younger brother, a loud and cheery visitor arrives, almost as if to deliberately interrupt him.

As Subaru recovers in his hospital room, the voice of his copy, Beyond, echoes inside his head. An epic battle between two Neo Universe Sense users is about to begin!

Despite a promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade, Subaru's battle with Beyond has him questioning whether he should continue as a pilot. Then, he realizes he has an unexpected talent. He senses a new possible future opening up for him...
