Watt thinks he can do everything by himself as class president but comes to understand that good leaders are inclusive and collaborative in that they perform some duties and allow other people to perform other duties.

When the City Island Elementary School softball team doesn’t play well (and ultimately loses), Lidia and the rest of the team realize what was most important: having fun together!

By visiting a new place in City Island, a retirement home, Watt and Windy come to understand the similarities between themselves and senior citizens. They realize there is a lot they can learn from older members of their community.

Watt visits his dad, an architect, at work, and learns about the specialized knowledge needed to build a building.

Watt and his class go to the planetarium and learn from the Earth herself, Terra, about how City Island is one community part of a bigger world.

Watt and Windy attend a town hall meeting to discuss what should be done with an empty lot in City Island and learn the importance of public spaces the whole community can enjoy.

Watt and Windy go on a ride with Flurry the snowplow to see how the city works together to clean up after a snowstorm.

All of City Island comes together for a big New Year’s celebration, and we see all the ways the community comes together to make it happen.

Watt and his class paint a mural to beautify the city! To help him find inspiration, his art teacher, Ms. Easel takes Watt to the City Island Art Museum where he learns about an important community institution and various styles of art.

Watt and his dad are going on a trip to Movieville, so Watt learns all about the airport and the people who work there.

Watt visits Windy and her family in Skytown! Even though he’s initially nervous about fitting in, he ends up loving it there, and learns how their neighborhood is different from his.

As research for a class history project, Watt talks to a 300-year-old road named Laney, who tells him all about the development of City Island.

Watt and Windy help Carry the mail truck mail a lost letter named Posty. They learn all about how the post office works.

Watt and Windy want to help Detritus (who has gotten himself stuck in a tree). They learn that they can call the Fire Department for help.

Watt and Windy want the next book in a series they're reading, so they head to the library, where a friendly librarian shows them how the library works and how much it has to offer.

Watt and his friends want to make a flag to represent their club at the City Island Flag Parade and learn from the City Island Flag himself how symbols have meaning on flags.

Lidia shows Watt and Windy around the skate park. They learn that there are rules they have to follow there so everyone can stay safe and have fun.

Watt, Windy, Sally, and Piper volunteer at a dog shelter, and Watt makes such a strong connection with one of the dogs that he adopts her.
