A young woman named Tessa seems to know everything about Stefan's history. She also has a disturbing message for Damon about his own future. Elena and Katherine have the same dream that Stefan is in danger and desperately needs their help.

Damon and Elena try to help Stefan through a confusing time, taking Elena on an emotional journey. Caroline tries to get to know Jesse better. Matt tries to figure out the reason behind his mysterious blackouts, and Jeremy makes a startling confession.

Elena and Damon attend the Whitmore Historical Ball as Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII. When Silas demands that Damon commit an unthinkable act, it leads to a violent confrontation.

While hiding in a remote cabin it becomes obvious to Caroline that Stefan and Elena are keeping a secret, so Damon comes up with a parlor game designed to expose the truth. Bonnie ignores Grams' warnings, hiding the truth about the Other Side from Jeremy.

While Bonnie searches for a way to stop Markos, Caroline is witness to an unthinkable act of violence. Stefan talks to Elena about her relationship with Damon. Liv and Luke come up with a dangerous new strategy.

Damon's plan, relying upon split-second timing, causes a massive, accidental explosion in Mystic Falls. Residents are confused, leaving a heroic trail of sacrifices, relief and despair. The Other Side continues to disintegrate.
