Ein Café in New York: Die Freunde Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler und Ross besprechen hier all ihre Probleme. Diesmal offenbart Ross den Freunden, dass seine Frau ihn verlassen hat – wegen einer anderen Frau! Kurz darauf taucht Monicas Freundin Rachel auf. Sie hat gerade ihren Bräutigam vorm Altar stehen lassen und möchte nun ein völlig neues Leben beginnen.

Ross erhält Besuch von seiner Ex-Frau Carol: Nicht genug damit, dass sie ihn für eine Frau verlassen hat, jetzt eröffnet sie ihm auch noch, dass sie schwanger von ihm ist! Monica sieht dem Besuch ihrer Eltern mit Grauen entgegen, da sie in puncto Beziehung und Karriere völlig unterschiedliche Ansichten haben. Rachel steht auch ein schwerer Gang bevor: Sie will Barry den Verlobungsring zurückgeben.

Eine Limonadenfirma gibt Phoebe 7.000 Dollar, nachdem sie einen zerstückelten Daumen in einer Limonadendose gefunden hat. Chandler raucht wieder, zum Entsetzen seiner Freunde.

When a deliveryman accidentally brings a pizza meant for George Stephanopoulos, who lives across the street from the girls, they decide to peek at the former White House advisor with their binoculars.

Ross helps Rachel do laundry and considers the evening a first date. Joey has Monica pose as his new girlfriend, because he wants to get back with the girl he just dumped.

Joey gets his big film break when he's hired to be Al Pacino's stunt butt.

Just as Phoebe is about to sing miserable folk songs at Central Perk, New York has a blackout. The gang returns to the girls' apartment, where Ross tries to tell Rachel he likes her.

Monica and Ross mourn the death of their grandmother. Chandler questions his sexuality.

Monica's first Thanksgiving dinner for the gang burns when they all run to the rooftop to see the runaway Underdog balloon from the parade.

The gang makes--then breaks--a pact to celebrate New Year's Eve without dates. Ross compensates for his loneliness by getting a roommate, a monkey named Marcel.

Chandler's romance-novelist mother comes to New York to visit him, and Joey catches her and Ross kissing.

Monica gives Paolo one of the dozen lasagnas she made for her aunt, who doesn't want them anymore because they've got meat in them.
