In 1936 Java, ambitious atheist Dr. Anton Drager studies leprosy under renowned Dr. Jansen, neglecting his wife and clashing with Jansen over faith. Drager plans to cash in on his newfound knowledge when he returns home; however, his journey becomes more spiritual when a terrifying meeting with a black-magic medicine man forces him to reevaluate both his self-serving past and his future.
