Placing trust in Alicent's offer for a peaceful transfer of power, Rhaenyra positions herself to take King's Landing. But Alicent's return to the capital reveals developments which jeopardize her ability to make good on her promise. New armies from across the realm prepare to join the fray as the Triarchy fleet sails to take on Corlys in the Battle of the Gullet.

As the consequences of the Battle of the Gullet ripple across the realm, a desperate Alicent risks everything to fulfill her end of the bargain in King's Landing. On Dragonstone, Rhaenyra must decide if she will move forward with her plans, or if the cost of the Iron Throne is too high.

Rhaenyra learns the situation in King's Landing is not what she anticipated. Unable to locate her enemies, and with demands coming from all sides, Rhaenyra must navigate a delicate balance between appeasing her supporters and consolidating her rule.

Ormund's confounding invasion of Tumbleton forces Rhaenyra into a corner. Daemon's loyalties are tested as Aegon and Larys must find a way to survive the ever-present dangers on the road. In the Riverlands, Cole sets on a course from which there is no return, and Alicent's situation in the Red Keep becomes more dire.

While Rhaenyra is preoccupied by the search for Aemond and Vhagar, Daemon, at odds with Mysaria, attempts to control the spiraling situation in King's Landing with the help of the Gold Cloaks. Aemond and Aegon come to terms with their shortcomings, while Cole makes his presence felt in the Riverlands.

While Rhaenyra and Daemon focus on how best to deal with Ormund, tensions among their neglected allies take hold. Alys offers Aemond a new vision of the future. Gwayne arrives in Tumbleton to find the situation is as precarious as it was on the battlefield.

Trust among families fractures as Gwayne questions Ormund's plans, and Alicent arrives at Harrenhal committed to ensuring Helaena's safety. Meanwhile, Aegon makes a bold and potentially reckless decision.
