In Salt Lake City, Utah, the ubiquity of the Mormon Church complicated the AIDS crisis: patients received little support from-or were cast out by-their communities. With many patients abandoned by nearly everyone they knew, Dr. Kristen Ries and Maggie Snyder, PA-C partnered with an order of Catholic nuns to create a safe haven amidst a sea of hate and fear for those with nowhere else to turn.
