There is a huge arc of geological destruction surrounding the Pacific. Three-quarters of Earth's volcanoes are situated here, and 90% of all earthquakes also occur along this Ring of Fire. Over the last 200 years, disasters here have claimed over a million lives. Scientists have set out to discover why these volcanoes occur around the margins of the Pacific Ocean and to find out what powers them.
