When 13-year-old Hannah Berry brings her ailing younger sisters to the office, Dr. Finlay decides to inquire into the circumstances of her home life. Dr. Neil tries to obtain a new drug that could help Robbie Hamilton, and Janet has misgivings about her future home with Angus.

With Dr. Finlay’s assistance, Janet intervenes on the behalf of her childhood friend Rachel, who has spent the last 38 years institutionalized. But is Rachel ready to deal with the world outside of a hospital?

A routine visit to a farm on the outskirts of town plunges Dr. Finlay into a long-simmering local mystery. Angus’s niece, Rhona, begins training with Janet to take over as housekeeper, and Dr. Neil departs for Glasgow.

A local farmer fears rabies after getting bitten by a dog, and a young boy with measles goes missing. Rhona’s mother and aunt come into town for the wedding, and Janet and Angus’s big day arrives at last.
