Thin Ice

Elsa Engstrom, the foreign minister of Sweden travels to Tasiilaq, Greenland, to attend the Arctic Council, where she intends to propose a treaty on prohibiting oil drilling in the Arctic. One of her advisers, Viktor, is invited aboard a Swedish oil exploration ship but during his visit the ship is attacked and he is taken hostage.

Liv tries to join the investigation into the attack on the ship but is denied by Katarina, the chief of Police in Greenland and is forced to go rogue. Meanwhile the attending ministers of The Arctic Council want to call the meeting off.

The entire town of Tasiilaq is cut off from the outside world as the main communications tower is sabotaged taking out any forms of communications apart from satellite phones. Meanwhile the local police find the only potential witness dead and Enok is suspected of the murder.

Liv and Enok join forces and travel to Scoresbysund to follow a lead that might bring them closer to finding the kidnapped crew. In a secluded valley, Liv and Enok discover grim evidence and the heavy emotional and physical strain puts Liv's pregnancy at risk.

The cyber attacks and smear campaign against Elsa escalate and the validity of her adoption of her children is questioned in the Swedish media. Meanwhile the mass grave in Scoresbysund is opened and the bodies are identified.

Elsa receives a ransom note from the kidnappers, threatening to execute Viktor if she doesn't retract the treaty. Instead she makes the threat public, risking Viktor's life. The council is outraged and Russia is voted out of the council. Elsa finally receives the support she needs.

The support for Elsa's treaty dwindles when Ville Berger acquires the drilling rights to the Greenlandic oil well. Suspicions arise that Ville, and by proxy Sweden, might be behind the whole thing.

The hostages are transported back to Tasiilaq and Liv is reunited with Viktor. All evidence points to Ville being behind the attack and the oil-deal is revoked. There is still a stand off between Sweden and Russia but Elsa tries to focus on getting her treaty signed.
