Lecture 20. The Cluniac & Cistercian Revivals. Salvation came to the Papacy from the monks of Cluny, a reformist movement at the disposal of the bishop of Rome. The Cluniac monks espoused clerical reform, Crusades, and the primacy of the Pope. But as Cluny fell victim to its own wealth and success, another reform took place under the Cistercian monks, led by Bernard of Clairvaux.
