The fifth season begins with sixteen professional chefs competing for an executive chef position at the Borgata Hotel, Casino and Spa in Atlantic City. The contestants must wow Chef Ramsay with their signature dishes.

Following the previous night's dinner service disaster, Chef Ramsay presents the aspiring chefs with the food that they wasted last night. The red and blue teams compete in a challenge to properly shuck as many scallops as possible.

The fourteen remaining chefs visit a meat locker to learn about various cuts of beef, then put their knowledge into practice when Chef Ramsay proclaims Hell's Kitchen a steak house for the night.

The thirteen remaining chefs must serve breakfast to fifty young football players and cheerleaders. However, one team runs out of eggs.

The twelve remaining candidates shop at an Asian market for ingredients for Asian-fusion beef, poultry and seafood dishes that are judged by Chef Ramsay and food writer Tanya Steel.

The eleven remaining chefs cook for a Bar Mitzvah, preparing gourmet variations on the guest of honor's three favorite dishes.

The ten remaining chefs must make tapas from leftovers. At the dinner service, one chef's mistake nearly derails both teams.

Chef Ramsay challenges the teams' palates in a blind taste test. In a packed dinner service, anxiety is higher than usual when celebrities Eric McCormack and Robert Patrick stop by.

The remaining chefs must prepare a dish made with king crab, with each team presenting its strongest plate to Chef Ramsay. During dinner service, the teams devise their own menus.

Chef Ramsay dissolves the teams and now the six remaining chefs are on their own as they each prepare a dish using fourteen simple ingredients.

After a trip to Atlantic City's Borgata, where the winner will soon be a top chef, the contestants must prepare a signature dish that they would serve at the esteemed hotel.

Chef Ramsay cooks for the remaining four chefs, then tells them to replicate what he had prepared. Later, there's a surprise proposal planned for the dinner service's dessert course.

The final three contestants must prepare a meal for one hundred of L.A.'s finest chefs. The winner gets some face time on FOX's local morning show while the losers must wash and iron the Hell's Kitchen linens.

The two finalists return to Atlantic City to discuss their potential menus with the Borgata Hotel, Casino and Spa's chief operating officer. But first, the two must work with an architect to design restaurant spaces for their final dinner service competition.

The final two contestants square off in their last dinner service competition. The winner gets the head chef job at the Borgata Hotel, Casino and Spa in Atlantic City.
