Behaving Badly

Five years after it happened, Bridget recalls the moment her long marriage to Mark ended and wonders at her remarkably detached reaction. She has moved out to a small apartment, while Mark and his new wife, Rebecca, have taken up residence in the family home with Mark's demanding mother, Frieda. After an epiphany about her empty life, Bridget makes a bold move that shakes up Mark and Rebecca.

Frieda is delighted to have Bridget back, but Mark desperately tries to find someone who can talk some sense into Bridget. Meanwhile, their daughter, Phyllida, seduces a handsome young pastor who had also capitated her mother.

Bridget moves on, showing up unexpectedly at Phyllida's place. Phyllida is outraged and moves home. Bridget makes herself indispensable to the others in the apartment, feeding them, getting Herbert's care under control, and forming a fond friendship with Giles that suddenly becomes something more. Frieda schemes maniacally to rid her house of the now pregnant Rebecca and bring Bridget home.

Floored by the news of Bridget's romantic plan, Mark tries to talk her out of it. Bridget remains firm that she wants life on her own terms, whatever the risk that entails. Giles decides he cannot leave his ailing grandfather behind. But how will he break the news to Bridget? Frieda's scheme backfires, while Serafina acts on a wicked impulse.
