Interior Design Masters

Alan Carr introduces a brand new cohort of interior designers, as they transform vastly different spaces across the next 8 weeks. Their first challenge is to demonstrate their signature style on YHA bunk rooms in The Lake District. Judges, Michelle Ogundehin and Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen must then decide who will win Stand Out Space and which designer will be the first to go home.

The nine remaining designers get down to business as they transform shipping containers into offices in Bristol for creative start-ups. They are further tested on their ingenuity to find sustainable design solutions using recycled and repurposed materials. Michelle and eco designer Max McMurdo decide which designer will win Stand Out Space and which designer will go home.

The 8 designers go high end, pairing up to transform luxury retirement show apartments in an old converted military hospital in Portsmouth. They need to attract the affluent baby boomer generation by demonstrating both their design and home staging abilities, before Michelle and guest judge Sue Timney decide which pair has created the most desirable apartment and which pair will be eliminated.

The designers create a home from home for rescue dogs at Battersea. These transitional rooms will allow their four-legged clients to get used to a home environment before they are adopted by their new owners. Battersea ambassador, Sue Perkins assists Michelle in judging the rooms along with a couple of Pomeranians.

The designers head to Allianz Stadium Twickenham, the iconic home of England rugby to do up hospitality suites. They must create a premium experience for die hard rugby fans by producing a swanky bar for serving pre-match drinks and a stylish dining area for putting on a generous spread. Restaurateur, Nisha Katona helps Michelle decide who will win a place in the quarter final.

The designers pair up and hit the high street, doing up two shops in the idyllic town of Rye. The first sells handmade paper and textiles from India and the second is a women's boutique and jewellers. The designers have to come up with canny ways to improve the décor, layout and display of products before being critiqued by Michelle and guest judge, the queen of shops, Mary Portas.

To make the final the designers are heading to Edinburgh where they'll each be doing up a venue ready for the biggest Fringe comedy and theatre festival in the world. Every August the beautiful city of Edinburgh hosts over 50,000 shows in over 300 venues dotted across the city. And the semi-finalists will be taking on one each.

The 2 finalists head to the whimsical village of Portmeirion in Wales to redesign two quirky cottages. Taking inspiration from colourful buildings and spectacular scenery, they show Michelle and guest judge Sophie Robinson everything they have learned over the last 8 weeks before one of them wins Interior Design Masters and a major collaboration contract for a range with John Lewis.
