Departure

A high-speed, automated train making a routine trip from Toronto to Chicago sets off with an array of passengers. The train controls cease to function and it ploughs into a stalled tanker truck and derails. Investigator Kendra Malley must find the cause of such a large-scale transportation accident. Kendra immediately deduces that there is more to the accident than meets the untrained eye.

Kendra is carjacked by the mysterious fugitive, forcing her to initiate a dialogue with Special Agent Ellen Hunter. Kendra goes to the hospital to check on Lucas and learns the fugitive, Max, protected Lucas during the crash and has disappeared again somewhere within Rockwater. Max reaches out to Kendra again in a life or death situation, putting her in an awkward position.

Diana Bright's actions almost destroy Ellen Hunter's plan with respect to Max and Kendra refuses to back down to her. Kendra learns that one of the passengers was murdered after the crash. A violent attack at the hospital leaves Max a fugitive once again. Max bonds with Lucas and tells him he can trust Kendra. Howard offers up a clue to a resistant Kendra, but his advice proves valuable.

Max makes a dangerous decision that causes Kendra to fear for his life. The search for Lucas's next of kin continues after Kendra learns that he may have to go back to Canada and live with an abusive step-parent. Charlotte and Theo make inroads into the FBI investigation. Dom uncovers yet another connection to Jordan Cole. Theo suffers a brutal attack and is rescued by an unlikely saviour.

Max travels to Chicago to clear his name, with Ellen Hunter providing him the resources he needs to bring down the Matulona drug cartel. Siobhan Doyle and Dom get closer to a breakthrough with their portion of the case but a tragic event delays their progress. Jordan Cole is on the same investigative track as Siobhan and Dom and attempts to fix the problem independently, with a terrible outcome.

As the case winds down, Kendra feels that she's still missing a piece of the puzzle. Lucas prepares to meet his grandfather when he realizes the truth about the crash, and finds himself in a dangerous situation. Kendra must close the case and move on to give the town and herself the space to heal.
