Their brief is to create sustainable design in an urban setting, as the designers are tasked with transforming five luxury apartments in London's Elephant and Castle. Working in pairs, each teams must transform an apartment together, with one designer in charge of the open plan kitchen-living room, while the other transforms the bedrooms.

The teams head off to Oxfordshire and arrive at a former stately home now turned into a day nursery. With just two days, a budget of three thousand pounds per team and an army of tradespeople, the designers set to work transforming their classrooms. A first look at reveals a number of challenging issues.

The designers head off to Scotland and arrive at the Mar Hall Hotel, a nineteenth century mansion now turned luxury resort. With just two days and a budget of two thousand pounds, plus a carpenter and decorator each, the eight designers have their work cut out. On first inspection they find things are not quite as they hoped.

In the shoe shop, lead designer Ry and his teammate Jack aim to elevate the ordinary looking interior into a luxury boutique. Collaborating on their design the two youngest competitors have created a scheme using dark blue, natural wood and accents of gold. But finding it tough to relate to the shop's clientele, Ry has trouble adjusting to the role of lead designer.

They're heading to Eastbourne in Sussex to transform five 1930s beachside chalets. Working on their own, each designer is assigned a brief tailored to an different chalet tenant. From a family bolthole to a group of friends called The Gin Club, and even a chalet rented by the local A&E department for team building, each space has a different clientele and very different requirements.

Taking on the kitchen and living area, Tom focusses on building bespoke furniture. A new sofa, a dining tabletop, revamping the exposed beams and lots and lots of upholstery means that Tom and his trades are flat out creating his refined aesthetic .

With a brief to convert her classic salon into a bold alternative space, Monika decides to embrace her gothic maximalist signature style i starting with a black paint job. After a confident start, reality soon hits home - with 16 lampshades to make from scratch, Monika is soon racing to finish on and contemplating significant sacrifices to her vision.

Jack will be transforming an award-winning gastro pub with a field to fork ethos. With a rustic interior that now looks dated and an underappreciated upstairs room that's seen better days, Jack has his work cut out. The owners want to refresh the look and feel and restore the pub's identity.
