Beginner Guitar Lessons

Lesson 1: Basics & Beginner Chords by Peter Vogl is a lesson covering the basic concepts of playing guitar. This is the same material that would be covered during your first lesson with a teacher. The video discusses playing position (for the left and right hand), parts of the guitar, using a pick, and playing chords.

Lesson 2: Beginner Strumming & More Chords by Peter Vogl focuses on learning how to strum the guitar. We'll cover proper technique, different strumming patterns, strumming exercises, seven new chords, and we'll strum through different chord progressions. Learning beginner strum patterns and proper technique is the first major step in learning how to play songs.

Lesson 3: Beginner Scales & Alternate Picking by Peter Vogl will cover beginner techniques for both the left and right hand. Alternate Picking involves striking the string with downwards and upwards motions. Peter will share some drills & tips to help you learn this picking technique. We'll also take our first look at guitar scales. We'll learn the E Blues, G Major, Am, and the Chromatic Scale.

Lesson 4: New Chords & Strumming Tips by Peter Vogl will teach you new strumming ideas and chords. You will learn four new chords (Am, Am7, Fm7, E7), how to play an arpeggio, and other strumming ideas. An arpeggio is when you play the notes of a chord one at a time. This is a technique you can hear in famous songs like Stairway to Heaven and The Animals' House of the Rising Sun.

Lesson 5: Simple Melodies by Peter Vogl is a guitar lesson for beginning players. You can use the notes found in scales to create simple melody lines. Peter will teach you a series of melodies and exercises to practice. This is a fun and musical way to work on your picking and fretting technique. These exercises can also serve as a mental and physical break from working on chords.

Lesson 6: Beginner Strum Patterns by Peter Vogl will teach you a variety of popular beginner level strum patterns. We will learn four new strum patterns that we can play over the chord progressions from our earlier beginner lessons. Being able to play a wide variety of strum patterns is necessary when learning to play specific songs. It also allows your own progressions to be more entertaining.
