Jeeves and Wooster

Bertie is instructed by his Aunt Dahlia to appropriate a silver cream jug from Sir Watkyn Bassett, the magistrate who once fined him for stealing a policeman's helmet. Bertie uses his visit to the Basset residence to heal a rift between Madeline and Gus.

Bungling Bertie Wooster gets himself into a bit of a pickle at the Bassets' Fancy Dress Ball, where the engagement of his friend Gussie Fink Nottle is due to be announced. The trouble is caused when Stiffy plants Constable Oates' helmet in Bertie's wardrobe.

Summoned to the seaside Bertie is subjected to the match-making plans of his awesome Aunt Agatha, who wants him to meet Aline Hemmingway, the sister of the local curate. All is not what it seems, however, and Bertie soon falls victim to the Hemmingways, who, for all their masquerade of genteel respectability, turn out to be notorious confidence tricksters.

When Bertie takes up the trombone Jeeves is forced to leave him and take a position with his friend Lord Chuffnell.Bereft of a valet, Bertie engages the insubordinate and drunkard Brinkley and promptly retires to a cottage in the grounds of Chufnell Hall. For financial reasons, Chuffy is about to sell the estate to a rich American: J Wasburn Stoker, with whose pretty daughter Pauline, Chuffy is already in love.

Bertie's fellow drones descend on the seaside town of Chuffnell Regis. Bertie is effectively kidnapped by J Washburn Stoker when he suspects some impropriety between his daughter Pauline and Wooster himself.

Uncharacteristically morose, Bertie is brooding on the subject of marriage and parenthood. His life is empty. To fill the void he decides to marry Bobbie Wickham of whom Jeeves has always taken a dim view.
