Tamra, the island

A blonde blue-eyed foreigner named William washes up on the shore of Jeju's Tamra Island. Beo Jin, a local native Jeju woman diver, rescues William and takes him into hiding.

Beo Jin returns after an exhausting sea expedition. She feels she never live up to her mother's high expectations. She pleads with William to take her with him when he leaves.

Beo Jin does all the housework for Park Gyu, an exiled nobleman, in order to stop him from reporting her hiding William. She guards the village storehouse with Won Bin. During their watch, gifts for the king are stolen, leading to Won Bin's arrest.

Park Gyu starts an investigation for the recent burglary. When the government troops find out about Ahn's shelter, he attempts to flee Tamra island with a raft.

Kkeut-boon, jealous of Beo Jin who got a chance to represent the village in a diving contest, gives her a cup of seaweed tea poisoned with laxatives. Park Gyu gets William to perform CPR on Beo Jin after she passes out underwater.

Chi Yong, a member of merchants' army, disguised as a government inspector, disrupts the investigation on burglary.

Ahn finds a smuggler boat to Nagasaki but William does not want to leave Beo Jin behind. Ahn and William barely escape being arrested by Chi Yong's army, only to encounter an army of female divers.

Park Gyu resumes the investigation. He smells a rat and sneaks into a priest's house in the middle of the night, and comes across Beo Jin who has come to see William.

Park Gyu goes together with Yi Bang to track down the priest who plans to pocket the gifts meant for the king. Beo Jin and William happen to witness Hyang Dol murder Yi Bang and are confined in the priest's safehouse.

Park Gyu saves Beo Jin and William, then goes back in to the safehouse to find a crucial piece of evidence, but gets caught. Royal secret inspectors storm in to stop the fight. Park Gyu reveals his real identity as an inspector.

Beo Jin is left on the island on her own, longing for both Willam and Park Gyu. She joins Ahn on his travels hoping to find William. Park Gyu is attacked by Chi Yong's army on his way to Han Yang and barely escapes death with William's help.

Park Gyu decides to send Beo Jin, William and Ahn away. He tries to pull himself together but fails when Beo Jin bids him farewell.

Beo Jin comes running to Park Gyu when she finds out that he is in danger. William, unable to believe that she left him, returns to the mountains to find her but gets captured by the government army. Park Gyu, William and Beo Jin head to Han-yang.

Mrs. Uhm interrogates Beo Jin about her relationship with Park Gyu. Beo Jin gives innocent and straightforward answers, but Mrs. Uhm does not approve. Park Gyu takes time out of his busy schedule to linger around Beo Jin's room.

William sends a letter to Beo Jin through Park Yeon. William and Beo Jin meet each other in the marketplace. William is assigned to the Ministry of Culture.

Mrs. Uhm kicks Beo Jin out when she finds out that Beo Jin was not pregnant. Si Yeon, Park Gyu's fiancé, provides shelter for Beo Jin, Park Gyu, William and Ahn. William performs 'Hamlet' in front of the king, and the king orders him to death.

Ahn is devastated upon hearing that William was beat to death under the king's command. William takes Seo Rin's offer to serve her as his master. Beo Jin finds a secret storehouse where the gifts for the king is kept.

Despite William's request, Beo Jin reports the secret storehouse to Park Gyu. Si Yeon reports the two to Mrs. Uhm and she slaps Beo Jin in anger. Park Gyu fails to find any evidence about the secret storehouse.

Ahn tries to stop Seo Rin's trade with the East India Company but Seo Rin takes William as hostage. Park Gyu breaks off his engagement with Si Yeon when he realizes that everything was plotted by Seo Rin.

Seo Rin finds a way to refine silver, and is ready to start trading with the East India Company. Park Gyu turns away from Beo Jin upon seeing her with William. Park Gyu and William reconcile when they are both locked in a prison.

William, Beo Jin and Park Gyu return to Tamra to stop Seo Rin's trade with the East India Company. The island's women divers join to stop the opening of the trading ports.
