The entire family is sports-obsessed, but their small house can't accommodate Deb's workout gear, or Stephane and his son playing hockey in the dining room. With a cramped main floor, a tiny bathroom, and a basement that is stuffed to the rafters - they are down to their last out in the final inning.

CJ and Matt are expecting their first baby but their home isn't ready to welcome their newborn. They have a postage-stamp-size kitchen with their pantry and microwave in the hallway, a dining room that doubles as an office, and a bathroom that CJ finds so yucky, that she wears flip-flops in the shower. Two big decisions coming up: the baby's name and which design plan to pick.

Melinda and Shawn live with two daughters under the age of 2 and they are busting at the seams. The kid's toys have completely taken over the house and to top it off, the in-laws often come over to help and resort to sleeping on a mattress in the middle of the living room! Mia and Rob take on the challenge as Melinda and Shawn have to decide between a functional 2nd floor or a basement.

When Stuart and Christine bought their home 12 years ago, it was perfect for a family with small kids. But now, with two teenage daughters, their house has become claustrophobic and unmanageable. The music instruments are in the dining room, Stuart's office is in his daughter's bedroom, and guests are sleeping on an air mattress in the basement. Stuart and Christine are at their wit's end.

Sandy and Dax have some major house anxiety. Sandy's cousin is living in the bedroom upstairs, they have a five-year-old daughter, Sandy's wardrobe is in the basement and they have recently relocated their bedroom to the ground floor, right beside the front door. On top of that, there is only one bathroom for 4 people... it's no wonder Sandy and Dax are feeling the pinch.

Morgan and Chris have a small house, two young daughters and an ever-expanding toy collection. They're crawling over tea sets, doll houses, stuffed animals and each other! Add the in-laws six months of the year and it's a full house. The three B's - bedroom, bathroom and basement - are just not working for them.

When Glenda and Alias first moved in, their house was just the right fit. Three years, two young kids, a cat and a huge dog later, their home feels small and extremely cramped! Their upstairs layout is just too tight and their basement is unsafe and dingy. Rob and Mia are up for the challenge, but Glenda and Alias will need to decide between a functional jam-packed basement or a separate office.

Laura and Mauro's house is a dysfunctional mess. Their bedroom is where the dining room should be, the entrance to the basement is beside their refrigerator and their kitchen is so small, it's a tight squeeze sitting all four family members at the table! Sadly, entertainment is out of the question for this gregarious family.

Eryn and Chris purchased their home three years ago with the hopes of having a family, one day, to fill it. With the arrival of their son, they soon realized their house was NOT family-friendly. Their kitchen is completely dysfunctional - Chris' outstretched arms can touch both sides! Their dining room serves as a jungle gym and nothing works in the bathroom.

Carolyn and Owen are stuck in a home that just isn't meant for them. Three years ago they bought a house that was barely within their price range and ended up having to fill it with their parents' old furniture. After having two children, this 100-year-old home and its aging decor no longer work for them.

Tatiana's small house is home not just to her, but to her busy student/daughter Shelby, Shelby's study friends and a revolving door of international students. The mother-daughter team is desperate for a kitchen large enough to teach home economic skills, a bathroom that doesn't require yoga moves, a laundry room that doesn't terrify them and a study space more practical than a bed.

Eloise, Darien, and their four young boys are a single family living in a repurposed triplex. The layout of their home is so dysfunctional that wasted space is a constant concern. Their growing boys still share bedrooms and, much to Eloise's dismay, she shares one bathroom with all of them!

New parents Molly and Ed are falling out of love with their home. Before daughter Riley came along, the house worked well enough. But as a family of three, privacy, safety, and comfort have become a thing of the past. Their open-concept 2nd floor is hardly a retreat, their in-laws have nowhere to stay, Ed's hoarding is taking over the basement, and Riley's turned the house into her jungle gym.

Lisa and Rob's century-old home has been badly in need of work since the day they moved in. But, with their busy schedules and growing family, renovating was the last thing on their to-do list. As time went on, the kids started to take over, and now the clutter and storage issues have spiralled out of control. The outdated kitchen and unheated pantry can't accommodate their needs.
