The World From Above

This journey begins at the volcanic island of Stromboli before joining Sicily's northern coast, where we head west past hilltop villages to Cefalu and its ancient cathedral. From there we continue to the island's capital city of Palermo, then head south across vineyards to the coast of Triscina and our final location, the ancient Greek ruins at Selinunte.

This journey starts over the Isles of Scilly, at the very southwest tip of Britain. The rugged coastline of Cornwall takes us to the historic Falmouth Bay, whose fortresses have guarded the harbor entrance for centuries. Nestled in an abandoned clay pit we find an extraordinary ecological experiment, the Eden Project near St. Austell.

This journey starts on the east coast of Formentera, a tiny Mediterranean island renowned for its peaceful white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters and nude sunbathing. A short stretch of water separates Formentera with its larger sister island, Ibiza. The journey ends at the island's historic capital, Ibiza Town.

This journey begins at Mepkin Abbey on the Cooper River before heading east to the Historic Hampton Plantation, then on to the coast, where we follow marshland and inlets before flying over the enormous Francis Marion National Forest. To the south is Fort Sumter, a key stronghold during the American Civil War. Our journey ends on the sandy beaches of Hilton Head Island.

We start in the heart of North Wales, at the historic town of Ruthin. From the ruins of Denbigh Castle we fly along the beaches and resort towns of the north coast. At Conway Bay we fly southwest before heading towards the Menai Strait. The journey ends with a spectacular flight through the mountains and valleys of Snowdonia, finishing at the highest peak in Wales, Mount Snowdon.

This journey begins towards the middle of Portugal at Linhares Castle, before heading southwest towards the beautiful city of Coimbra and its ancient university. From there we look at two spectacular monasteries at Batalha and Tomar before entering the River Tagus and our final destination, Lisbon, the capital of Portugal.

This journey begins at the Plymouth Plantation, a recreation of the first European settlement before moving up the coast to modern town of Plymouth, where the Mayflower has been reconstructed. On the way north towards the capital of Massachusetts, Boston, we pass the town of Quincy and home to one of the founding fathers of the American Revolution and also its second president, John Adams.

This journey begins at the southern reaches of Saxony heading toward the historic city of Leipzig. It's then on to Colditz Castle, the infamous World War II prison. To the south lie the Ore Mountains, whose silver deposits once brought great wealth to the town of Freiberg. Joining the great River Elbe at Meissen, we follow it upstream to the capital of Saxony, Dresden.

This journey starts on the north coast of East Anglia at the resort town of Cromer, before heading along the coast towards the old fishing harbor of Blakeney. Heading inland past some magnificent country houses, we take a look at the queen's Residence at Sandringham. At King's Lynn we discover warehouses going back to the 15th century, when it was one of the main ports on the east coast.

This journey begins at the Straits of Messina before heading up the coast to the resort town of Tropea. Continuing past a striking coastline and hilltop villages, we come to Paestum, one of the greatest Greek archaeological sites. Further north we take a dramatic dawn flight around the Amalfi coastline, the Bay of Naples, and Mount Vesuvius, and then explore the ancient Roman town of Pompeii.

This journey begins in the north of the state at the Winterthur Museum before heading south towards Wilmington. From there we follow the river to New Castle and its historic houses. To the south is Pea Patch Island and Fort Delaware, protecting the approach to the capital. Continuing south is Dover and the International Speedway Track, as well as a large U.S. Air-force base.

This journey starts at the historic city of Stirling in the southern lowlands of Scotland. We then head towards the university town of St. Andrews and its famous golf course. Along the dramatic coastline with its red cliffs is the mighty 10th Century Dunnotar Castle. At Aberdeen, we turn inland toward the Cairngorm National Park, home to some of the highest peaks in Scotland.

This journey starts at the narrowest point of the English Channel and the Opal Coast that was an inspiration for 19th century writers and artists. At the picturesque yacht harbor of St. Valery we take a detour inland to Rouen, where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in 1431. We end our journey at the historic city of Caen, the final resting place of William the Conqueror.
