The Kingdom

Spiritualist Mrs. Drusse tricks the doctors into admitting her into the neurosurgery ward of the Kingdom hospital, where she discovers the sounds of a weeping child in the elevator shaft. Swedish consultant Dr. Helmer is confronted by the results of his sloppy work treating a brain-damaged patient.

Amidst concerns over his methods, Helmer continues to be haunted by claims of medical malpractice. As Mrs. Drusse draws closer to the weeping spirit-child, things become increasingly mysterious when she discovers an old photograph of a little girl with a strange-looking man.

Gathering leads, Drusse visits the control room and finally makes contact with the spirits, but evil forces prevent her from going further. Helmer’s desperate attempts at covering up his medical misdeeds are foiled when fellow doctors Krogshøj, Judith and Mogge beat him to the hospital archives.

The Kingdom is driving Dr. Helmer mad. He comes up with a plan to put a stop to Krogshøj’s blackmail. Dr. Moesgaard’s catastrophic tour of the hospital with the director and Minister of Health culminates in sex, an amateur séance, a liver transplant, and an abortion in the neurosurgical unit.
