With the guests on Soldier Island continuing to die, one by one, according to the rules of the nursery rhyme "Ten Little Soldier Boys," the surviving guests are in danger of losing their minds.

Five of the original ten are left. Tempers fray as night falls and Judge Wargrave explains the reason for his being brought to the island. Next day there is another soldier missing and hysteria and suspicion take hold, relieved by drunken partying.
