A landmark spaceflight to the Moon goes awry and lands the crew on Mars. They embrace it as an opportunity to be the first humans to explore the Red Planet, and make a successful landing on the martian surface. They begin exploring and find that Mars once was home to an advanced civilization that seemingly destroyed itself, and soon find that they are not the only life forms walking the surface.
