When a missing housewife turns up dead, her husband enlists the help of the 14th precinct to solve her murder. As Cagney and Lacey investigate, they discover that the woman is from Cagney's home town, revealing a glimpse into Cagney's past.

Cagney and Lacey become frustrated when a patrolman's strike forces them back into uniform and out onto the streets. Both women would prefer to be working on solving the homicide case they had been investigating.

Cagney (Sharon Gless) and Lacey (Tyne Daly) must investigate the death of a porno film star who died during a film production. However, their investigation is hindered by the victim's costar, who is reluctant to become their star witness.

Cagney and Lacey are on the search to arrest a wanted criminal who has jumped bail. As they search for the man, they run into a bounty hunter named MacGruder (guest star Brian Dennehy), who is looking for the same man, complicating matters.

After an infant is abandoned, Cagney and Lacey end up deep in the world of underground baby merchants. Meanwhile, Lacey seriously considers adopting the infant. Cagney deals with a new love who doesn't approve of her profession.

Cagney (Sharon Gless) is injured while in the line of duty by a fleeing liquor store robber. While Cagney is out recovering, Lacey (Tyne Daly) must come to terms with working with a new, temporary, partner. Also staring Al Waxman and Carl Lumbly.

Cagney and Lacey must find a new witness, after their key witness in a case against a shady landlord passes away. They take to canvasing the building in question in the hopes of finding a new witness before the landlord is set free.

Cagney and Lacey are brought in by a school principal to investigate whether or not a six year old girl is being sexually abused. Things become more complicated when the little girl is coached by her father to recant her tale.

Cagney (Sharon Gless) and Lacey (Tyne Daly) are investigating vandalism at a railroad yard when Lacey is suddenly abducted by a dangerous young man (guest star Michael Madsen) escalating to a face off between him and the SWAT Team.

When a string of violent murders take place, Cagney and Lacey go undercover as Taxi Cab drivers to try and find the killer. Lacey's family become hysterical at the prospect, fearing that Lacey will lose her life in pursuit of justice.

When a young boy refuses to comply with her commands and Cagney (Sharon Gless) is forced to shoot him, her life becomes a nightmare. Cagney must deal with having shot a young boy, while the press claims it to be racially motivated.

Cagney (Sharon Gless) and Lacey (Tyne Daly) spend the weekend on duty going through old paperwork when they discover a warrant for a rape case that expires in 24 hours. The two must race to serve the warrant before it expires.

During a drug raid, Cagney and Lacey arrest the man responsible for Dory McKenna's (guest star Barry Primus) drug rehabilitation on charges of narcotics possession. When the evidence disappears, Dory becomes the prime suspect.

Lacey stops a woman's attempted suicide but feels guilt and responsibility when the woman turns up murdered soon after. When Cagney and Lacey investigate the murder, they soon discover a world of massive gambling debts and loan sharks.

Cagney & Lacey investigate a homicide that occurred during an attempted burglary. They discover that the gun used was purchased illegally. In light of this information, Lacey also discovers that her son, Michael, has been playing with her revolver.

Cagney and Lacey investigate a series of fire-bombings in the garment district, and the trucking company that they suspect is behind them. Meanwhile, Harvey Lacey switches occupations and becomes a tax-shelter salesman.

Cagney and Lacey investigate a larceny case after a stray bullet offers a new development in 32,000 petty theft cases. A singular credit department employee appears to be behind it all. Meanwhile, Dory McKenna proposes to Cagney.

Cagney is requested by Capt. Hennessey to partner with him in the investigation of the murder of a foreign diplomat while Lacey is on desk duty. Everything becomes complicated when Cagney becomes a victim of a sexual harassment by Capt. Hennessey.

Cagney witnesses a stabbing and apprehends a vicious criminal. But when the victim is found murdered, she becomes the only witness to hold the killer responsible. The killer, who has a history of making people disappear, begins to stalk Cagney.

Cagney and Lacey search for a young boy whose mother fears is missing. The detectives, however, suspect the child is working as a runner for a drug dealer. Lacey is reluctant to go to the doctor after she fears she might have breast cancer.

After finally visiting the doctors, Lacey receives the news that she must have a mastectomy, forcing her to face her own mortality and what that could mean for her family. Meanwhile members of the 14th precinct are preparing for the Sergeant's exam.
