Something is seriously amiss at Wetherton Royal Infirmary. Body parts are being dumped in a lake, patients are dying, and it looks as though two of the staff have been murdered.

When an animal rights activist is found dead in the lion cage of a private zoo, Dalziel and Pascoe also find themselves investigating an older murder on the same estate.

An archaeological team is racing against time to find an ancient burial site before it is covered by a new bypass. However, the body they find is only a few months old.
