Sam Shepard co-wrote and stars in Wim Wenders' drama about Howard Spence, an aging, self-destructive Western actor who flees from a movie set to visit his aged mother (Eva Marie Saint). When his mother informs him he may have a grown child, Howard travels to Montana to visit old flame Doreen (Jessica Lange). When a young woman named Sky (Sarah Polley) appears, Howard's reuinion gets complicated.
