In 1962 Reg Sprigg and family completed a geological survey of Australia's Simpson Desert. This feat became the first crossing of the Simpson by a motorised vehicle. Fifty years later a convoy group attempted the first crossing of the Simpson in March of that year. Heavy rain across central Australia made their crossing more adventurous than usual.
