Nobel Prize-winning scientist Dr. Austin Shepard (Fonda) suddenly disappears from his observatory at the Space Propulsion Labs leaving shocking data behind for Dr. Christopher Richardson (Perry).

Handey and the scientists back at SPL admit that the initial predictions of Shepard have come true. Delgado and Richardson, are rescued by the military and brought to a secure bunker to meet with other top scientists and government leaders. There they learn of the government's secret preparation for just such a cataclysmic event.
