In the beginning, humanity falters, and God sends a great flood. God promises Abraham, a descendant of Noah, to give him a people, despite his wife's barrenness. Abraham's faith is tested when he understands what God asks of him.

As the Israelites are enslaved in Egypt, God commands Moses to free them. The Pharaoh refuses to let them go, but a miracle allows Moses to lead the Israelites through the desert, where God promises them a land.

In the promised land, Joshua takes Jericho, but the leaders who follow lose their way. Samson faces the Philistines, and in Samuel's time, the Israelites demand a new king. Saul is anointed king, but another waits in the wings.

King Saul learns a lesson in obedience to God. David defeats Goliath and wins the hearts of his people, but greed is his downfall: he takes Jerusalem and his best friend's wife. The golden age of Jerusalem is short-lived.

The people ignore the warnings of the prophet Jeremiah and cannot stop the Babylonian invasion. Without a city and a temple, the people learn to keep God in their hearts. After years in exile, Daniel could be their salvation.

In a Jerusalem occupied by the Romans, the people long for a messiah. Mary is astonished to learn that she will give birth to the son of God. Herod fears the usurpation of his throne. And John the Baptist prepares the people for the greatest leader.

Jesus' disciples rejoice in his miracles, but not everyone is happy to hear his message. What kind of leader is Jesus? Who is this man who can heal the sick and raise the dead? A powerful storm is brewing.

Jesus' entry into Jerusalem during Passover brings joy but also trouble for some. Caiaphas seeks a way to curb Jesus' growing popularity. The disciples share a meal and a sense of impending doom.

On Easter Sunday, Caiaphas tells Pilate that Jesus' execution is necessary to maintain peace. The disciples experience the horror of Jesus' crucifixion. At his death, the sky darkens, but those who have faith are soon rewarded.

Pedro, believing that Jesus is still with them, finds the strength to spread his message. But it is Paul who becomes his main messenger, bringing the Word to the heart of the Roman world and faith to countless followers. The Word lives.
