The body of a man is discovered on the once-splendid but now declining Fitzgerald Estate. He is quickly identified as none other than its itinerant Lord, returning home from abroad to attend a family wedding. Will and Geordie find themselves investigating stories of lost love and familial inheritance in an attempt to uncover his killer.

Lester Carmichael, part of the husband-and-wife team who own the Carmichael’s cleaning goods brand, is found dead in curious circumstances. Will and Geordie’s investigation leads them to a Cambridge address where they discover Lester’s private life is less spotless than the pristine image he and his wife liked to present to the public.

A vagrant is found dead in the doorway of Leonard’s cafe. Geordie can’t shake the feeling that this murder could be connected to two previous unsolved cases. Is there a killer out there targeting the homeless? Meanwhile, Mrs. C. feels that God has turned his back on her just when she needs him most.

Neil Hughs, a member of Will’s congregation, is found murdered just before a church fundraising event. Will questions how well he really knows his parishioners as he and Geordie investigate the gossipy world of the church Missionary Circle. Will realizes Neil was far from the upstanding member he seemed, as it emerges that more than one of the congregation could have reason to wish Neil dead.

After a murder at a local retirement home, Will and Geordie get the runaround when they try to track down two of its missing elderly residents. Are they victims? Or are they involved in the crime and leading the police on a wild goose chase? Will and Geordie both find themselves at romantic crossroads, while Mrs. C. faces a big decision.

Another homeless man is found dead, killed in the same manner as the previous victims. Geordie realizes that he may have sent the wrong man to prison and fears that the real killer could still be at large. Now it’s a manhunt, and Will’s life could be in danger.
