King of the Skies

November 1918 - October 1919: Albert Plesman, a flight lieutenant with big dreams, and Anthony Fokker, a millionaire aircraft builder, meet at the First Aviation Exhibition in Amsterdam.

May 1920 - October 1920: Plesman realizes that his ideal of civil aviation is at risk, led by men who just want to make a profit, like Fokker, who’s having some personal issues.

August 1925 - October 1925: Fokker moves to the US to follow an opportunity, while Plesman invests in a prototype from another manufacturer. But, the test flight is a disaster.

October 1929 - April 1930: 1929’s stock market crash hits both Plesman and Fokker. The two men are very overworked, and both their wives suffer greatly from being neglected.

October 1933 - January 1934: When Fokker’s new plane fails, Plesman must fly a slower one. The race is a success, but both men end up being frustrated with the Board’s decisions.

September 1934 – October 1934: Plesman wants to launch the new DC-2 into a great air race from England to Australia, but finds out that Fokker has acquired exclusive sales rights.

July 1935 - August 1935: Fokker and Plesman blame each other for the more and more frequent fatal crashes, and both get to a breaking point. Was everything worth this pain?

August 1939 - January 1940: Our duo is brought back together by the Dutch government’s decision to order Fokker’s newest airplane. Will they manage to finally find some peace?
