On the Gironde estuary, Talmont is a 13th-century English-built citadel, rebuilt many times. Saint Radegonde church overlooks the water. It has been destroyed and rebuilt by sea and war. The citadel lies on the Way of Saint James and saw pilgrims, trade and battles across centuries. It is linked to Roland's legend and medieval defenses shaping its silhouette today.
