Set in the late 70s, the first day in a Muhammadyah grade school is very stressful for two teachers, Ms. Muslimah and Mr. Harfan, and also their nine students, in Gantong village, Belitong. The reason is that if less than 10 students apply, the school will be closed. That day, Harun, a special student, saves them. So the 10 students are dubbed Laskar Pelangi by Ms. Muslimah.
