The Fall

Paul Spector is rushed to Belfast General Hospital where DrJoe O'Donnell [Richard Coyle], Nurse Kiera Sheridan [Aisling Bea] and the staff engage in the blood soaked fight to keep him alive. News of Spector's arrest and life-threatening injuries reach Katie and she plots to help him. With the powers that be questioning Gibson's handling of the case her determination is tested to the full.

Gibson and Burns are hauled over the coals by the Police Ombudsman and the Policing Executive for their conduct and handling of the case. When Spector's name is released to the press as the arrested suspect in the Belfast Strangler case his wife and family are forced to deal with the consequences. And do Gibson and her team have enough evidence?

Having found Spector’s lock-up, Gibson reads through his journals, considering the possibility that there may be as many as nine more murders. Still recovering in the hospital, Spector seems to be suffering from long-term memory loss.

Despite Gibson’s warnings to her superiors, Spector’s wife and children are involved in a nearly tragic incident. Spector meets with his defense team before being moved from the hospital to a psychiatric clinic.

Spector meets other in-mates in the secure psychiatric facility. As Dr Larson begins his assessment, Spector starts to open up about his past. T Anderson and Ferrington follow their lead in London and uncover someone from Spector's past who they hope will link Spector to an old murder case. Katie appears in court having breached her parole and attacked her friend.

Now squarely in the frame for another murder, Spector recounts the night Susan Harper died to both his defense team and the police. After a shockingly violent incident, doubts surface about the veracity of Spector’s amnesia.
