The New Adventures of Black Beauty

Nigel Denning returns to his father's house in England. He brings his new wife Jenny Gordon Denning with him. The Dennings want to move to New Zealand and take Vicky, Nigel's 12-year-old daughter, with them. Lord Fordham does not like this idea - he wants to give Vicky a traditional education. Vicky meets the old Black Beauty, Jenny's horse, and begins to love him.

When word arrives that Jenny's husband's ship is lost, she and her stepdaughter Vicky head for their farm in New Zealand and meet Manfred. Word arrives of Black Beauty's death and, on the same day, a wild black horse appears.

Jenny and Vicky work cleaning up the farm but Vicky's mind is on the wild black horse. A trip to town establishes Jenny as a veterinarian. While gone, the horse runs away. Vicky and Manfred discover the stallion trapped with Vicky, and learn how far she will go to save the untamed new Beauty.

Frank Coats takes Black Beauty in Jenny's absence. Coats wants a fight between his favorite horse, Dancer, and Black Beauty.

Vicky begins her mail delivery job with the self-important Mr. Burton while Dr. Gordon finds himself with little to do. Vicky and Beauty encounter a down-on-their-luck circus troupe that is intent on conning everyone.

Something was badly wrong on the ship that crashed on rocks in broad daylight and sank. Vicky, who discovered the only injured man and a nearby dog while reading on the beach, solves the mystery based on various comments, the captain's papers and a dictionary.

After Manfred buys an old pump handle he thinks came from a long-lost gold mine, he and Vicky set out to find Dooney's Glory Hole. They fall into the mine and are trapped when a wooden ladder will not support their weight.

Kurt, a secretive man, says he has recently joined the community in order to study local birds. Manfred thinks his flying machine is ready and, with Vicky's encouragement, invites the town to watch. Kurt seems to have ties to Manfred's past and Vicky is intent on learning the truth.

The upper-class Trents have moved into the community and Vicky hopes to have found a friend in Phoebe over their shared love of horses. But Phoebe becomes jealous of Vicky and her riding skills with Black Beauty, leading her to behave snobbishly. Vicky learns it's important to be true to who you really are.

Young Bobby, while being pursued, is injured in an illegally-set trap on the Denning land. While riding Black Beauty, Vicky confronts Coats for setting the traps and helps Bobby without giving away his hiding place.

While delivering mail to Ronson, Vicky sees that his working horses are emaciated and covered in sores. Ronson needs them for his livelihood and refuses to treat them better, despite warnings from Jenny and the constable. Manfred and Hilda Burton develop a solution for the situation.

Manfred takes over Vicky's mail duties when she leaves for exams. A missing registered letter and opened mail has Manfred in trouble, and his German heritage creates suspicions. The answer may be with Ernie, a boy working for Coats, who has a fondness for stamps and Beauty.

Jenny is away, giving everyone a chance to plan her birthday celebration. Lewis is brought to the farm after becoming injured while Manfred creates a cooking invention for Mr. Burton, which he believes will make him wealthy.

A present for Beauty from her grandfather causes Vicky to miss her parents even more. Manfred's need for a new chimney leads to an injury to Mr. Coats ,and a land dispute is finally resolved.

Horses are being stolen and the constable is unable to determine the culprits. Meanwhile the Pentlands arrive to check on an inheritance and Manfred develops feelings for the daughter. After Beauty is taken, the authorities discover the thieves from an unexpected source.

Vicky encounters a man named Saunders who mistakes her for his deceased daughter Emily. Vicky relates to his grief and tries to help him when she and Beauty come to the rescue during a fire. Saunders also helps resolve another dispute between Jenny and Mr. Coates.

Dr. Gordon has left to visit some of his more distant patients during a flu epidemic. When a farmer's baby becomes very ill, Jenny arrives to help. Vicky and Black Beauty go on a wild ride to locate her grandfather, but will they be in time for the Stokes child?

Mr. Snape, a powerful landowner, asks Dr. Jenny to inspect his new bull and then insults her intelligence after a disagreement over the animal's health. Vicky encounters three children who are trying to sell their sheep after arriving from a drought-stricken region. The two incidents are connected as Black Beauty helps Jenny prove that she was correct and the sheep are healthy.

Vicky comes across two unknown men down by the river, not realizing they are running a still. Detective Carmody's job is threatened, so Vicky, Manfred and Beauty work together to help him find the culprits who are making people sick with alcohol poisoning.

Julius and his grandson Rupert, itinerant musicians, arrive in the settlement and are asked to stay by Dr. Gordon. The grandfather's claims of success are exaggerated, angering Rupert, who's been offered a scholarship to study in Europe. It's up to Vicky and Black Beauty to make everything right.

Vicky thinks her life is dull, so when she hears of two escapees from prison, she hopes to encounter them. The convicts need someone to break their shackles, so they take Manfred and the doctor hostage. Later, the women are also captured, and it's up to Beauty to rescue them.

Vicky befriends servant girl Enid from a nearby farm but is uneasy when she catches her stealing. Enid is waiting for word from her fiancé so she may join him. After a fall, Dr. Gordon discovers Enid is being mistreated. Jenny and the doctor provide a means for her to leave but missing money may prevent it.

Dr. Gordon and Jenny head into the city, leaving Vicky and Manfred a list of chores to accomplish. Unbeknownst to Vicky, Manfred suffers a blow to the head and starts acting strangely. The appearance of a mysterious woman and gossipy neighbors has Vicky convinced he's possessed.

Vicky has a new friend, Fiona, who has become attached to a pony of Mr. Coats'. Fiona's father says he will buy the horse, but a misunderstanding leaves Coats angry and determined to thwart the purchase. When the pony is sold to a tinker, Vicky and Black Beauty decide to remedy the situation.
