While investigating a robbery, ambitious police officer Gina Jenkins and her partner, PC Luke Lloyd, stumble upon a major crime scene. Meanwhile, Gina’s introverted brother, Sam, is bullied by a local troublemaker until the man’s girlfriend, Mel, gives Sam a package to look after.

As Sam stashes the gun away, Gina checks into neighbors’ complaints about hearing gunshots at night. The police question suspects for the murder of local car salesman Stevie Rose, but his widow, Patricia, makes a surprising announcement.

Sam reels from the death of his grandmother, lashing out at his mother and stepfather when he learns they plan to sell the house. Police respond to an incident at Patricia’s home, while Sam’s stealing at work gets him into trouble.

With their first robbery yielding disappointing results, Sam’s former coworker convinces him to do another job, but things go awry when Sam decides to target his stepfather’s business.

Gina’s boss, Carl, questions Sam about his work, but Sam reveals he knows about Carl’s relationship with his sister. Patricia prompts Gina to reexamine her father’s murder, and Sam befriends Ela, a broke photography student.

Sam and Ela flee the robbery at the club, with Luke in hot pursuit. Gina later questions them about the robbery, but Sam and Ela mislead her and continue their crime spree.

When a woman's body is found in the woods, the police find a connection to Stevie. Sam leaves his grandmother's house, but his family grows suspicious of his actions.

Gina confronts her mother about her father’s death. Sam and Ela are in danger when Mel and her boyfriend come looking for the gun, but after Gina gets involved, things take an unexpected turn.
