Beginner Guitar Lessons

Lesson 13: Beginning Techniques by Peter Vogl will cover some of the most common techniques that are used by every guitar player. We'll learn hammer-ons, pull-offs, and slides. It's important to learn proper techniques from the beginning so that you don't have to overcome bad habits. Peter will provide detailed instructions on each of these maneuvers and also show you exercises to practice them.

Lesson 14: More Fingerpicking by Peter Vogl is a followup to our first lesson on beginner fingerpicking. In this downloadable video you start by learning four new fingerstyle patterns. Next, we'll start playing moving bass notes with our thumb to make the patterns more interesting. Peter will also show you a couple of warm up exercises and a beginner version of the comping technique.

Lesson 15: Chords with Bass Lines by Peter Vogl will show you how to insert a series of single notes in the middle of a chord change. Bass lines are a commonly used technique that provide a fluid and melodic way to switch between two chords. Peter will provide step by step instruction on how to play ten different bass lines.

Lesson 16: Chords with Hammer-Ons and Pull-Offs by Peter Vogl will help you improve your rhythm guitar skills. One technique to accomplish this is to hammer-on or pull-off certain notes within the chord you are playing. Peter will teach you different ways to use hammer-ons and pull-offs in a variety of chords. You will then learn a new chord progression that incorporates all of these ideas.

Lesson 17: More Chord Progressions & Strum Patterns by Peter Vogl will build upon our previous lessons showing you rhythm guitar tips. You will learn three new chord progressions and strum patterns to play with them. We'll also continue working on fingerpicking and adding hammer ons to chords. Peter will teach you how to play each of these progressions in detail with focus on proper technique.

Lesson 18: The Ink Blot Lesson by Peter Vogl will teach you a set of chords that move up and down the neck. You can use different strum patterns, try fingerpicking, or even play arpeggios. You can vary the rhythm, order of the chords, or other dynamics. The goal is to create something musical. Peter will provide some guidelines and options to point you in the right direction.
