Route 66

From Chicago in the east to Los Angeles in the west - in songs, novels and for Route 66 fans, it only goes in one direction. Only a few miles this legendary highway squeezes through the gorges of the metropolis on Lake Michigan, then it becomes a country road for almost 4,000 kilometers through "smalltown America", through the vast country of farms and small towns.

The American writer John Steinbeck called Route 66, the mother of the roads, "Mother Road" 70 years ago in his novel "The Fruits of Wrath". It has stayed in the minds of Americans, even if it has not been found on any road map since the construction of the autobahn.

Route 66 opened the west of America more than 80 years ago. In the western section, in Arizona and California, America's legendary highway crosses some of its most beautiful backdrops. Landscapes that look like someone has poured a paint bucket over the rocks.
