Un chico de 12 años llega al club de tenis del Seigaku, y para escarnio de los veteranos, se apunta en un torneo para menores de 16 años. Su nombre: Ryoma Echizen.

Ryoma resulta ser el hijo del legendario tenista Nanjiro Echizen, una estrella de los años 80 que sacudió el tenis japonés y mundial.

Con la llegada de Ryoma al club, se presenta el equipo titular del Seigaku, capitaneado por Kunimitsu Tezuka.

Ryoma deberá medirse ante los titulares para hacerse un hueco en el equipo. Entre ellos, está el feroz y taciturno Kaido, al que apodan el "Víbora".
