Ever keen to distract herself, Fran takes up piano. Ever keen to delude himself, Bernard falls in love. All Manny wants is a break.

On a scorching hot day, Manny tries to maintain his body temperature so it doesn't go over 88 degrees. Fran has problems with a new neighbor and Bernard tries to find an appropriate "summer girl."

Bernard and Manny need to teach a psychotic ex-con to read in three days after agreeing to host his reading and book-signing in the shop. Fran gets a new job and all seems to be going well until some miscommunication when Manny calls in a favor.

Manny and Bernard try to keep up with modern book shops. In doing so, Manny helps Fran get over her boredom by encouraging her to look up her family tree.

Fran tries to cleanse her lifestyle by taking up yoga and going on a radical diet, while Bernard and Manny receive some books on Freud and their lives descend into his famous theories.

The noise from the construction next door drives Bernard, Manny and Fran up the wall. Fran suggests a holiday. Bernard and Manny find baggage in her luggage. There's nothing in the crisp packet and Manny's pants aren't that easy to fold. Will the customer crack the system? What happens on the riverboat? Just how many monkeys are missing in Canada?
