Neuf-Brisach, regarded as Vauban's masterpiece, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008. Near the German border, its pink sandstone fortifications form a unique 16-point star. The 300-year-old walls also shelter remarkable biodiversity discovered during local flora and fauna surveys.
