After failing the Mathematics Olympiad and giving up on his dream of becoming a mathematician, Gaku Kitada meets Kai Asakura, a young culinary genius, thanks to a plate of Neapolitan spaghetti he prepared in the school cafeteria. It is then that a shocking piece of news turns his life upside down

After impressing the patrons of the Wels Academy with his mathematically conceived Neapolitan spaghetti, Gaku is invited by Kai to visit him at his restaurant in Tokyo. There, he is put to the test by Chef Ranna Akamatsu

Against all odds, Gaku reunites with Kagura Musashi, one of his rivals from the Mathematics Olympiad. She looks at him with disdain upon realizing he has turned his back on his calling, but Gaku then decides to present her with a dish crafted through a mathematical approach

Gaku finally moves up to the capital and starts living in a shared apartment with Kai. Without wasting any time, Kai sets him a challenge, within one week, he must be able to create a dish that will win over all the members of Restaurant K's brigade

A very difficult week awaits Gaku. He must present the team at Restaurant K with a dish that will win the unanimous approval of the staff. If he fails, he will have to give up working with Kai and return home. For his first attempt, he chooses nikujaga, a Japanese beef and potato stew

Thanks to his world-class nikujaga, Gaku is fully accepted as part of the staff at Restaurant K, though he is still not allowed to serve customers. But things are about to change, as fate gives him the chance to meet again with Ichitarō Hirose, the genius who once drove him to abandon his career in mathematics

The brigade of Restaurant K will have to handle the service at an upcoming mathematics award ceremony. Kai announces that the assignment of dishes will be decided through a competition among the chefs who volunteer.

The cooking contest organized by the staff of Restaurant K to decide who will take part in the service at the mathematics award ceremony has begun. Each young chef is presenting a signature dish, but Gaku has entered all three categories: appetizer, soup, and meat dish

Gaku had condensed the appetizer, soup, and meat course onto a single plate, but Kai designated him to handle the dessert at the ceremony. Utterly inexperienced and beset by doubt, Gaku suddenly sees an unexpected figure appear before him.

Gaku considers giving up and going home, but after reading the article Hirose sent him, he returns to the ''K'' kitchen and begins his pastry training.

The long-awaited day of the awards ceremony in which Hirose is participating has finally arrived. Meanwhile, in Yamanashi, his native region, Gaku finally discovers the missing ingredient for his dessert.
